Music
for All Souls: A concert to celebrate the saints and departed souls featuring
the baroque band Theotokos, a living embodiment of
the Baroque church ensemble. The music for this evening will include
commemorative pieces for saints and the departed from the Baroque canon by
composers such as Telemann, Handel, and Biber, as well as new music by Balliett
and spirituals offered by mezzo Melanie Lynch. Theotokos
was born out of these musicians' weekly practice of preparing new music for
Sunday mass, penned by Balliett, improvising in service of the mass, and
exploring liturgically relevant pieces from the baroque period on historical
instruments. They are excited to bring their musical celebrations to Scarsdale
and St. James the Less through Metropolitan Japanese Ministry!
